Fabric Guide
Beautiful Prints Begin with the Right Fabric
At F&B, pattern and fabric are considered together. Our prints are selected to bring color, detail and character to every creation, while the fabric is chosen for its feel, drape and comfort. This guide will help you understand our fabric and choose the right print for your project.

Our current collections are printed on high-quality Tana cotton lawn, a fine and lightweight fabric made from 100% cotton.
It has a smooth, soft finish with a subtle lustre and an elegant, fluid drape. Although delicate to the touch, it is comfortable, versatile and suitable for garments intended for warm weather.

What Can You Make?

Understanding Our Prints
F&B collections include expressive florals, delicate small-scale patterns, geometric and ornamental designs, paisleys, stripes, borders and tonal prints. The scale of the design can influence how it appears on a finished garment:
Large-Scale Prints
Create a bold, expressive look and work beautifully on flowing silhouettes with generous fabric such as wide-sleeved kaftans and floor-length dresses.
Small-Scale Prints
Create a softer, more delicate effect and are easy to use across both simple and detailed garment designs, tailoring blouses, shirts and children’s pieces seamlessly.
Border Prints
Designed with concentrated decorative elements that can be positioned along hems, sleeves, necklines or garment openings. We recommend planning the placement before cutting.
Geometric & Directional Prints
Should be carefully aligned when cutting so that the pattern flows consistently across the finished piece, seams and hemline panels.
Before Cutting & Sewing
We recommend washing the fabric before cutting, as natural cotton may experience slight shrinkage during its first wash.
- Check the fabric for any directional design before laying patterns.
- Plan the placement of large flowers, borders and focal elements.
- Allow sufficient fabric for pattern matching where required.
- Use a fine, sharp needle (such as size 70/10) suitable for lightweight cotton.
- Test the stitch, iron temperature and interfacing on a small offcut first.
For complex patterns or border designs, we recommend consulting an experienced tailor before cutting.
Color & Print Placement
We take care to represent our fabrics as accurately as possible. However, colors may appear slightly different depending on the lighting, photography and screen settings of your device.
Because fabric is cut from a continuous printed design, the exact placement of individual flowers or motifs may vary from one piece to another. These natural variations are part of the character of printed fabric.
Fabric Measurements
Each fabric piece is generous in width and length to cater for traditional regional tailoring as well as contemporary fashion.
This quantity is usually sufficient to make one complete mukhawar or jalabeya dress. Fabric requirements may vary depending on the garment size, design, sleeve style, fullness, border placement and pattern matching. We recommend confirming the required quantity with your tailor before cutting.
